Lest we forget

Good morning! It's hard to believe this is the last Monday of the year already. Since it's also the fifth Monday in December the challenge this week at Let's Get Sketchy doesn't involve a sketch. Instead the challenge is to grab a photo or photos that aren't so great- the ones you normally wouldn't scrapbook-and do a layout with them. Before digital cameras we all had plenty of them. This is what I came up with...
I used my December kit from the Flying Unicorn. I just love their kits, so full of yummy goodies. And some close-ups to walk you around the page...
I distressed my background, then inked it and gave it some random punching. Then I adhered it to the piece of corkboard that came in the kit. I plan to hang this in my scraproom next to my other cork board panels. Anyways, then I used a Crafter's workshop tile mask and gesso on the background, inking it when dry to highlight the texture. I also used postage stamps here and there on the background. I put my journaling on strips because sometimes my handwriting looks terrible.

You can see the cork peeking through my distressed punch work. I used cheescloth in my clusters for a little softness. And added seed beads in random groups to the backround for just a bit more texture and color.

So grab your not so perfect photos and have some creative fun. And feel free to use a sketch to give you starting point. This is the wonderful sketch I used designed by Michele Singh.
I look forward to seeing you link up your creation with us at LGS! Hope everyone has a remarkable New Year! Thanks so much for stopping by and your comments!

  5. This is beautiful. Certain to be a family heirloom. And thank you for showing the close-ups. The cheesecloth is brilliant! And without the close-ups, I never would've noticed.
