This Moment

Good morning, crafty friends! My daughter recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee and I couldn't be more proud of her accomplishments. She sent me some pictures from her graduate photo shoot and I wanted to get started scrapping them right away. The current sketch from Let's Get Sketchy inspired my first layout.

I did quite a bit of fussy cutting using the Vicki Boutin "Wildflower & Honey" collection. It's an older line, but it's new to me and I couldn't resist the designs in this pack. I picked it up for a steal recently at my local Tuesday Morning store. I fussy cut the black shapes from the Hive paper, inked the edges, and mounted them on thin cardboard for a bit of dimension. All I had to do to the background was add some stenciling with modeling paste and a few splatters of acrylic paint. Easy Peasy. The layers under the photo were also mounted on cardboard. Most of the flowers and ephemera are from Prima and Tim Holtz, along with a few leafy die cuts using my Sizzix. The whole layout seemed to come together so easily once the fussy cutting was done. That's the great thing about sketches. Here are a few close ups.
And here is the May sketch from Let's Get Sketchy that jump started my layout.
Thanks so much for coming by and letting me share with you! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Thrifty Treasures for The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog

Good morning! Today I'm sharing the layout I created for my guest spot at Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog. The focus is thrift store finds. One of the first things I always look for when I go thrift shopping is tea cups. I love to collect them and I'm always thrilled when I find them. I also love to check out the old books section. The book page on my layout is from one of the books I've picked up recently from a thrift store near me. The brown envelope that my photo is on I also picked up there. It was in a gallon sized baggy chocked full of these brown envelopes in various sizes. I had originally got them because I thought they would work well in a junk journal and I've been wanting to make one for a while now. I just haven't started yet...one of these days. I also recycled a Tim Holtz package backing into my layers under the photo. The tags remind me of the price tags you see at some of the shops. The pearls, watch, and tea cup charm remind me of the costume jewelry typically found in most thrift shops. I distressed everything to give it a worn feeling, keeping in tune with the thrift shop vibes.

Here are a few close ups of the details. The navy roses and navy splatters on the background look almost black in the photos unfortunately. Hopefully it just shows that way on my monitor. Lol
Be sure to check out the challenge over at the Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog. I would love to see your take on the challenge. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful week.

Bloom

Hello, my creative friends! I'm back today with a new layout that I created for the current challenge over at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog. The challenge was to create something showing contrasts, like the changing of seasons such as wintery grays and browns giving way to the warmer colors of spring.  I chose to focus on the warm yellows and gold with splashes of pink on a gray background. I also chose to include the contrast between distressed, torn edges with a worn feel and straight, crisp edges as well as a couple fussy cut frames and butterflies. I hope I understood the challenge correctly.

A few close ups of some of the details and layers.

I'm still rusty, this being only my second layout since my 6 year hiatus.  However it was a lot of fun taking the challenge and the perfect motivation I needed. Maybe you can join in also :) Here's the link again just in case The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog. Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me share with you! I hope you have a wonderful week.
